You can buy guns while on base (Army).?

I looked online and heard about these PX stores and how you can buy guns, can NCO's carry there own weapon or is it prohibited to carry your weapon on base (deployed)? Now I am not saying I want to buy no 50. cal machine gun or anything I just want to know if you may be able to carry a pistol or what not.
